Job Overview:
Yavneh Day School seeks a dynamic and inspiring educator and leader to serve as its Director of Jewish Life and Learning. This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of Jewish life on campus, including curriculum development, religious rituals, services, and holiday celebrations. The Director plans and manages events related to the Jewish calendar, such as Monday and Thursday T’fillah, Friday Shabbat, and holiday observances, while handling the logistics of these activities. Supervising the Jewish Learning team, the Director works collaboratively with Hebrew teachers to integrate Jewish and Hebrew studies across the curriculum. Additionally, the Director serves as a liaison to local synagogues and the broader Jewish community, while also teaching a minimum of two classes per week.

Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Tanach, Rabbinic literature, Jewish history, and Israel education, along with experience in progressive teaching methods like experiential and project-based learning. A proven track record in Jewish Studies instruction, curriculum development, and leadership is essential. The candidate will have a growth mindset, a collaborative approach, and the ability to work with students, parents, and faculty from diverse Jewish backgrounds. A passion for Judaism and a love for teaching are key.

Key Responsibilities:

Jewish Life & Services: Lead and coordinate school-wide Jewish life events, including weekly
Monday T’fillah, Thursday Torah Service, Friday Kabbalat Shabbat, milestone ceremonies, and
holiday observances.

Curriculum Development & Integration: Work with faculty to integrate Jewish values into the
K-8 curriculum and ensure curriculum alignment with the school’s educational goals.
Teaching & Learning: Teach Jewish Studies classes (min. 2 per week) and coordinate the
8th-grade Israel trip.

Community Engagement: Serve as a liaison to local synagogues and Jewish organizations to
strengthen community ties.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Jewish Education or related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience teaching Jewish Studies, especially in a K-8 setting.
  • Expertise in Tanach, Rabbinic literature, Jewish history, and Israel education.
  • Experience with curriculum development, project-based learning, and fostering a positive
    school culture.
  • Comfort with diverse Jewish practices and cultural backgrounds.
  • Attend school events that take place outside of school hours: parent-teacher conferences, admissions, events, holiday celebrations.

Compensation & Benefits:
Salary Range: $80,000 - $110,000, based on experience.

Benefits: 50% tuition remission, APJCC membership, employer-sponsored healthcare, and retirement benefits after one year.
